Covanta Del Val Electrical Building
Outdoor Weather Enclosure Construction with Strict Safety Protocols
Yoe was tasked with building a special 20’ x 20’ weather enclosure to house transformers and protect electrical equipment for a new building at the Covanta Del Val waste-to-energy incineration facility.
Challenge
The enclosure needed to have two doors and a slanted shed-style roof as opposed to a traditional peaked roof to drain snow and rain toward a specific direction to help keep other areas and items dry. The building had to be built with metal studs and metal panels to house the electrical equipment. Because this building serves a waste-to-energy facility, compliance with critical safety protocols throughout construction and careful schedule management to minimize operational disruption was key.
Services & Solutions
Because of the existing strong relationship with the client, and a familiarity and trust between Covanta and Yoe, this project began as a simple sketch stemming from a conversation with stakeholders and was quickly elevated to a more formal project with a fast turnaround. To complete this outdoor general construction project on time and on budget per that initial plan, the Yoe Construction team worked on a meticulously scheduled timeline.
Careful site-specific safety procedures were required. Yoe worked closely with the Covanta team to ensure safety compliance throughout construction.
Results
Yoe was able to produce the desired building for the electrical enclosure to the specs discussed in about three weeks, ensuring safety and compliance was a priority from start to finish. Yoe appreciates the trust Covanta places in the team and values the long-term relationship built between the two companies.
